Region and Country specific scholarships

Below you will see scholarships dedicated to students studying in a specific geographic region or country. It is not an exhaustive list, so students are encouraged to conduct their own research.  SDSU does not endorse any external organizations or companies who may offer awards, but an SDSU Study Abroad Advisor may be able to provide more details and advice.

Argentina
Cultural Vistas Fellowship
The Cultural Vistas Fellowship affords underrepresented U.S. university students the unique opportunity to advance their career goals, develop global competencies, and experience life in another culture. Cultural Vistas will select up to 12 fellows to take part in this multinational professional development program that includes eight-week summer internships in Argentina, Germany, and India.

Asia
Cultural Vistas Fellowship

Freeman-ASIA Awards for study in Asia
Freeman-ASIA (Freeman Awards for Study in Asia) is designed to support U.S.-based undergraduates with demonstrated financial need who are planning to study overseas in East or Southeast Asia. The program's goal is to increase the number of U.S. citizens and permanent residents with first-hand exposure to and understanding of Asia and its peoples and cultures. Award recipients are required to share their experiences with their home campuses or communities to encourage study abroad by others and fulfill the program's goal of increasing understanding of Asia in the United States.

Czech Republic
Marie Hornik Scholarship for Study Abroad in the Czech Republic
Any SDSU students studying abroad in Czech Republic. The value of each scholarship award will be determined by the scholarship committee; the number of scholarships awarded will be determined by the scholarship committee; no minimum overall cumulative GPA required; all class levels are eligible

France
Benjamin Franklin Travel Grant
A man of the Enlightenment, philosopher and scientist, Benjamin Franklin was also a great diplomat and friend of France. This travel grant is named after him and aims at giving students enrolled in an American University an opportunity to discover France. It is open to sophomore, junior & senior students who are enrolled in a double major including one major in French and one major in another discipline. Consideration will also be given to students enrolled in a minor/certificate in French and majoring in another subject.

Germany
Congress-Bundestag Youth Exchange for Young Professionals (CBYX)
The Congress-Bundestag Youth Exchange for Young Professionals (CBYX) is a fellowship funded by the German Bundestag and U.S. Department of State, that annually provides 75 American and 75 German young professionals, between the ages of 18-24, the opportunity to spend one year in each other’s countries, studying, interning, and living with hosts on a cultural immersion program. The program consists of three phases: two months of intensive German language training, four months of classes in one’s academic or career field at a university, technical or professional school, and five-month internships in one’s career field.

Baden-Wurttemberg Stipendium
Provides a limited number of scholarships for study in the southern German state of Baden-Württemberg. Students accepted to a university in Baden-Württemberg (Heidelberg, Karlsruhe, Mannheim, Reutlingen, etc) are eligible. Please see the Baden-Württemberg Stipendium webpage for more details 

DAAD Scholarships
DAAD (German Academic Exchange Service) offers a wide range of funding opportunities for individuals to study, intern, or conduct research in Germany.

Delta Phi Alpha National German Honorary Society Scholarships
Scholarships for study in Germany. SDSU has a Delta Phi Alpha chapter, so students can contact the chapter advisor for more details.

Émigré Memorial German Internship Program
The Émigré Memorial German Internship Program–German State Parliaments (EMGIP) is a fellowship program that provides U.S. and Canadian students with internships at a German state parliament (Landtag). Internships afford students an excellent opportunity to gain government work experience, improve their high-intermediate/advanced German language skills, and learn about German culture firsthand.

UAS7 German Universities of Applied Sciences
The Study and Internship Program (SIP) has enabled highly qualified undergraduates from U.S. and Canadian colleges and universities to experience the German approach to hands-on education at a member of UAS7, a consortium of Germany's top universities of applied sciences. SIP students spend a semester studying at a UAS7 campus and a semester interning. Berlin School of Economics and Law and Hamburg University of Applied Sciences are the only two SDSU partner universities in UAS7.

Hungary
Hungarian Diaspora Scholarship

The Hungarian Diaspora Scholarship was established by the Hungarian Government for those who live in a Hungarian diaspora outside of Europe and wish to study at a Hungarian higher education institution to develop their personal, professional and cultural relations to Hungary.

The programme aims to support the professional advancement of the scholarship holders with high-quality Hungarian higher education while improving their Hungarian language skills and strengthening their Hungarian identity. After graduation, scholarship holders return to their home country with competitive skills and knowledge that enables them to support their community, preserve Hungarian values and reinforce the relations between the diaspora and Hungary.

Japan
Bridging Scholarships for Study in Japan
The Bridging Project offers scholarships to American undergraduate students participating in study-abroad programs in Japan. Funding from private foundations and major U.S. corporations, through donations to the nonprofit US-Japan Bridging Foundation, makes it possible to award about 100 scholarships each year to assist students with the travel and living expenses they will incur while studying abroad in Japan for a semester or an academic year. Applications are accepted twice a year for Bridging Scholarships.

Toshizo Watanabe Study Abroad Scholarship 
The Toshizo Watanabe Study Abroad Scholarship provides financial assistance to undergraduates or graduate students for a semester or year-long study abroad program in Japan. The scholarship will support up to the full cost of attendance to the program. Application deadline is February 15th of each year.

JASSO Student Exchange Support Program
Japan Student Services Organization (JASSO) offers a scholarship for qualified international students who are accepted by a Japanese university under a student exchange agreement. Applications are part of the host university application process, so students should look for the JASSO application when applying to the exchange partner in Japan. 

Sweden
Swedish Women's Educational Association - San Diego chapter
The San Diego chapter of the Swedish Women's Education Association (SWEA) offers a scholarship to San Diego State University students planning to study in Sweden. In order to be considered, SDSU students must simply apply for a study abroad program in Aztecs Abroad located in Sweden for the fall or spring semester. SWEA only considers applicants each new year in January or February who are planning to study abroad during the following academic year, any time from August to June.

Turkey
Study Abroad in Turkey for American Minority Students
The Turkish Coalition of America (TCA) awards up to 100 scholarships per year for African American, Hispanic American and Native American Students. These scholarships are awarded to eligible undergraduate and graduate students who have been accepted to a university in Turkey, Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) or in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH). TCA will award grants up to $2,000 per calendar year to full-time undergraduates (graduate students on a case by case basis) who have been accepted to a study abroad program in Turkey for a semester or summer respectively.  See the TCA Scholarships webpage for more details and how to apply.

United Kingdom
BUTEX Scholarship
Each year the British Universities Transatlantic Exchange Association (BUTEX) awards a number of scholarships to students studying abroad for either a semester or for a whole academic year. The value of each scholarship is £500 and will be paid to the winners once they have arrived and registered at their host university.

Cyril Taylor Memorial Scholarship (Fund For Education Abroad)
The Fund for Education Abroad (FEA) received a gift from The Cyril Taylor Charitable Foundation (CTCF) to fund scholarships for American students to study in the United Kingdom.
